Down on the Woods Road Farms in Spring

One of my favorite moments of springtime in Germantown is when the new foals from Clermont Farms make their first appearance out in the paddock along Woods Road.

I am very fortunate this is right down the street from Schoolfield and on my route to and from work every day.  This past Sunday I counted three, along with their mothers.  An added bonus to the scene is the ever-expanding menagerie at Southwood Farms directly across the street.  That day the pasture there contained a horse, goats, sheep, and one nonplussed wild turkey foraging in the background.

The two farms bring a welcome agricultural element to our road, and I break into a smile every time I pass by.  One note of caution though, drive slowly.  Last weekend two black pigs darted out across the road in front of my car, nimbly hopped through the fence back into the pasture at Southwood, where they casually struck up a conversation with one of the goats.   They’re fast little suckers!
